Nestle Truckers Turn Over Balik Baterya Schooldesks

Last January 25, Nestle staff and their truckers, together with Motolite representatives, turned over 164 school desks to Goa National High School Camarines Sur. The donation aims to help the school address their current shortage of about 400 chairs for the growing population of this central high school.

Goa National High School is the 3rd adopted school of the Nestle Supply Chain Management team.
To date, Nestle and its truckers has donated P620K worth of ULABs since they joined the Program in 2009.

Hazards of ULABs

* Lead is toxic and used electrolytes contain dissolved lead.
* Sulfuric acid is corrosive and contaminates soil and water when spilled.
* Ingestion or inhalation may cause anemia, high blood pressure, kidney problems, infertility, miscarriage, and nervous system damage.
* Exposed children may suffer from neurological disorders like learning disabilities and short attention span.

Thus, it is imperative that we dispose our ULABs properly. Let's not dispose these to informal recylers and junk shops who do not have pollution control. The common practice of battery breaking can cause contaminationof our water and drainage systems such as canals, rivers, creeks and wells.
